VCE Media 1 & 2
Unit 1

Course Outline

VCE Media is relevant to students with a wide range of expectations including those who wish to pursue further formal study at tertiary level or in a vocational educational and training setting. It will provide valuable knowledge and skills for participation in contemporary society.

 

Areas of Study

Film, television, radio, photography, print based media, newspaper, magazines, digital media, computer games, interactive multimedia, advertising, popular music and current affairs.

Unit 2

Course Outline

This Unit focuses on the Media industry and Media industry production from specialised roles through to professional production practices and Australian organisations.

VCE Studio Art 1 & 2
Unit 1

Course Outline

Studio Arts provides a framework for the development and expression of ideas, and the exploration of a wide variety of materials and techniques.

 

Areas of Study

· Students generate, explore and communicate ideas through specific art forms

· A wide range of 2D and 3D media and techniques

· Students research and study artists’ sources of inspiration and working methods

Unit 2

Course Outline

In this unit students will develop artworks through an individual design process based on inquiry and experimentation of materials/techniques, as well as learning to analyse the aesthetic qualities, ideas and styles in artworks.

 

Areas of Study

· Use the design process to develop individual ideas

· Explore materials and techniques

· Use the art elements to produce meaningful aesthetic qualities and ideas in artworks

· Evaluate aesthetic qualities in their own and others’ artworks

VCE Visual Communication and Design 1 & 2

Unit 1

Course Outline

This unit focuses on using visual language to communicate messages, ideas and concepts. Students develop practical skills in the application of appropriate design elements, principles and methods. Students will also explore the role of the design process in the production of visual communications.

 

Areas of Study

· Drawing as a means of communication – observational, visualisation and presentation drawings.

· Design Elements and Principles.

· Design briefs: How to create design solutions for specific needs.

Unit 2

Course Outline

This unit focuses on the application of visual communication design knowledge, design thinking skills and drawing methods to create visual communications to meet specific purposes in designated design fields.

 

Areas of Study

· Environmental or industrial/product design.

· Type and Imagery – manipulating types and images to communicate ideas.

· Applying the design process to create a design solution to a brief.

VCE Drama 1 & 2

Unit 1

Course Outline

This unit focuses on creating, presenting and analysing a devised performance.  Students examine storytelling through the creation of an ensemble devised performance and the manipulation of expressive skills  in the creation and presentation of characters.  Students will analyse a professional performance.

 

Areas of Study

· Natural and non-natural theatre styles

· Performance based upon real or imagined characters, based on personal, cultural, community experiences and stories

· Theory of dramatic conventions and elements

· Playmaking skills

· Journal work will be done concurrently with practical work.

Unit 2

Course Outline

This unit focuses on the use and documentation of the processes involved in constructing a devised solo or ensemble work. Students create, present and analyse a performance based on a person, event, a place, and art work, a text and/or an icon from a contemporary/historical Australian context. Students will analyse a professional performance.

 

Areas of Study

· Students must perform individually or in an ensemble

· Journal work will be done concurrently with practical work

· Dramatic elements, stagecraft, theatrical conventions and performance styles will continue to be taught

Year 10 Impro and Theatre Studies

VCE Drama 3 & 4

Requirements: Students will be expected to perform to the public at night. Students will be expected to attend two professional theatre productions, which may result in a trip to Melbourne or Bendigo.
