VCE Drama 3 & 4
Drama is about imagining, making and performing ideas through dramatic expression. Drama provides opportunities for students to learn about dramatic art through the development of expressive skills and the experience of making and being in a role.
Unit 3:  Ensemble Performance

Areas Studied:

· Nonnaturalistic drama from diverse range of traditions and subject matter.

· Nonnaturalistic construction techniques and devices and their uses within ensemble performance. Nonnaturalistic performance styles and theatrical conventions.

· Creating and analysing nonnaturalistic performance

Unit 4:  Creating and Analysing Solo Performance

Areas Studied:

· A range of construction techniques and devices for solo performance.

· A range of naturalistic and nonnaturalistic performance styles and theatrical conventions.

· Dramatic elements, stagecraft and expressive skills.

· Diverse range of cultural and historical sources as stimulus for solo work.

Special Conditions: as part of the coursework for this subject, students will be required to attend a performance by a professional theatre company (likely to be staged in Bendigo or Melbourne) as a class group.  Students will also be given the opportunity to attend “Top Class.” Students will be expected to perform the Unit 3 ensemble and the Unit 4 solo at night to a public audience.  The solo exam usually takes place in Bendigo.

VCE Media 3 & 4
Course Outline

VCE Media is relevant to students with a wide range of expectations including those who wish to pursue further formal study in this area.

Unit 3: Media narratives and pre-production

 

Areas Studied:

Media narratives and pre-production: analyse how narratives are constructed and distributed, and how they engage, are consumed and are read by the intended audience and present day audiences.

 

Media production development: research aspects of a media form and experiment with media technologies and media production processes to inform and document the design of a media production.

 

Media production design: develop and document a media production design in a selected media form for a specified audience.

Unit 4: Media production and issues in the media

 

Areas Studied:

Media production: produce, refine and resolve a media product designed in Unit 3.

 

Agency and control in and of the media: discuss issues of agency and control in the relationship between the media and its audience.

 

Film, television, audio, photography, print based media, digital media, interactive multimedia, advertising, popular music and current affairs.

VCE Studio Art 3 & 4
Unit 3

Course Outline

This unit focuses on studio production of potential artworks through individual enquiry, research, planning, and experimentation. Professional art practices of artists are explored.

 

Areas of Study

· An exploration proposal that defines a plan for an individual line of enquiry.

· Individual design process leading to the production of a range of potential directions based on the exploration proposal, showing experimentation with materials and techniques to communicate ideas, and study of inspirational artists.

· Study of art practices, styles, interpretation and communication of ideas by artists.

Unit 4

Course Outline

This unit focuses on the production of a cohesive folio of finished artworks and documentation.  It also investigates artists’ involvement in the art industry.

 

Areas of Study

· Folio of finished artworks developed from students’ ideas explored in Unit 3, showing skilful application of materials and techniques that communicate aesthetic qualities.

· Visual and written documentation that evaluates the extent to which the finished artworks reflect the focus of the selected potential directions.

· Methods of presenting artwork, role of public and commercial galleries, conservation, promotion and marketing of artworks.

VCE Visual Communication & Design 3 & 4
Unit 3

Course Outline

In this unit students gain an understanding of the process designers employ to structure their thinking and communicate ideas with clients, target audiences, other designers and specialists.

 

Areas of Study

· Analysis and practice in context

· Design industry practice

· Developing a brief and generating ideas

Unit 4

Course Outline

The focus of this unit is the development of design concepts and two final presentations of visual communications to meet the requirements of the brief. This involves applying the design process twice to meet each of the stated needs.
